What is Active 8-16?
The programme is a ‘Sport and Physical Activity on Referral Initiative’ available to young people. The aim is to increase long term participation in sport and physical activity by raising awareness of the benefits of sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles to young people and their families.
What do we want to achieve from Active 8-16?
We would like young people to receive a safe and effective introduction to sport and physical activity and be encouraged to continue to take part beyond the referral period, empowering clients to take control of their health and address lifestyle issues.
Who is referred onto the programme?
The programme is aimed for young people aged 8-16 who suffer from social, emotional and physical difficulties, these can include:
Obsessional Compulsive Disorders
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Low Confidence/Self Esteem
Young people are referred to the Active 8-16 programme through Child Health Professions. These include:
Behaviour Support Team
The young person will be referred for 10 "FREE" sessions of sport or exercise under the supervision of an experienced and qualified coach.
