What is Active 8-2-16?

The programme is a ‘Sport and Physical Activity on Referral Initiative’ available to young people.

The aim is to increase long term participation in sport and physical activity by raising awareness of the benefits of sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles to young people and their families.

What do we want to achieve from Active 8-2-16?

We would like young people to receive a safe and effective introduction to sport and physical activity and be encouraged to continue to take part beyond the referral period, empowering clients to take control of their health and address lifestyle issues.

Who is referred onto the programme?

The programme is aimed for young people aged 8-16 who suffer from social, emotional and physical difficulties, these can include:

Diabetes (controlled), Asthma, Obesity, Eating Disorders, Obsessional Compulsive Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Depression/Anxiety, Low Confidence/Self Esteem, Learning disability and Cerebral palsy.

Young people are referred to the Active 8-16 programme through Child Health Professions. These include:

Physiotherapists, Paediatric Dieticians, Occupational Therapists, School Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, Paediatricians,

Behaviour Support Team, Youth Workers and Support Workers.

The young person will be referred for 10 "FREE" sessions of sport or exercise under the supervision of an experienced and qualified coach.

THIS PAGE IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING MAINTENANCE

Basix Wrestling management and their training instructors have been working closely with Denbighshire Youth Services over the past 6 months, developing an outreach program which is professional wrestling based and accessible to young people within Denbighshire.

The sessions have been successfully piloted in both:

These sessions focus on health and wellbeing, all through the medium of professional wrestling, with class themes including; healthy eating, self confidence, physical fitness, self defence/de-escalation techniques, mental health, life skills, social interaction and communication.

At present, sessions are scheduled across a six week block (term time), with one 2 hour class per week.

This can be adjusted upon request.

Plans are now being put in place for our outreach programme to be rolled out into; Prestatyn, Abergele, Ruthin, Llangollen and Denbigh.

We are also in the discussion and planning stages to make these sessions available throughout the Flintshire areas.
